SVP provides over 40 percent of Santa Clara's electricity from carbon-free renewable resources, including wind, solar, geothermal, and hydroelectric projects, as well as innovative local generation from landfill methane and solar arrays on city-owned properties.

In the Operations Division, the engineer will work on communication and electrical power engineering, including programming industrial multiplexer networks. Qualification
To qualify for the Electric Utility Engineer position.. Candidates must meet one of the following education and experience combinations: a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering plus two years of electric utility engineering work.. Or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering plus three years of utility experience with proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Word.. Excel.. PowerPoint.. MATLAB).
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university AND two years of electric utility engineering experience.
- OR a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (other discipline) AND three years of electric utility engineering experience, including use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering may substitute for one year of experience.
- An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification with ten years of electric utility engineering experience can substitute for the degree and required experience.
- Valid California Class C driver's license required at appointment and for duration of employment.
- Desirable: Registration as an Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineer in California.
- Desirable: Experience with ESRI-based GIS, system modeling software (e.g., Aspen OneLiner, GE PSLF, DEW ISM).
- Must be able to work unusual hours in emergencies or as a supervisor.
- Must pass each phase of the examination process to qualify for the eligible list.
Role Responsibilities
Perform engineering work in communication and electrical power engineering for the Operations Division, including programming industrial multiplexer networks.
- Assist with substation design, transmission and distribution systems for the Engineering and CIP Projects Division.
- Manage or assist in managing Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) to support electric utility growth.
- Maintain the distribution system model and participate in integrated system planning for the System Planning and Asset Management Division.
- Identify and implement projects to support load growth and improve distribution system reliability.
- Work closely with customers and developers on their projects, coordinating with city departments and SVP field and operations staff.
- Prepare reports and deliver distribution system results to other SVP groups.
- Support SVP's mission of providing reliable, competitively priced electric service.
