Olympic College is building an applicant pool for Math Tutor positions at its Bremerton (Main) Campus. Tutors help students develop knowledge, insight, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills in mathematics course materials.

This is an hourly position scheduled to work up to 18 hours per week. The role reports to the Director of Tutoring and involves working in a high-attendance, high-volume study center.

Qualification

To be considered for the Math Tutor position, you must meet the following minimum qualifications. A reference from an instructor or professor is required if you are a current Olympic College student.

  • High school graduate, equivalent, or current Running Start student.
  • Completion of MATH 141 (or equivalent course) with a decimal grade of 3.5 or higher.
  • Basic computer competency.
  • Reference from an instructor or professor if you are a current Olympic College student.
  • Desired: College teaching or previous tutoring experience.
  • Desired: Completion of Math 141, Math 142, Math 151, Math 152, and Math 163 or equivalent courses with grades of 3.5 or higher.
  • Demonstrate excellence in mathematics.
  • Ability to work various hours and follow campus regulations.
Role Responsibilities

Assist students in analyzing assignments and assigned readings.

  • Help students interpret and understand mathematical concepts.
  • Develop students' critical thinking and mathematical communication skills.
  • Assist students in developing effective study habits and skills.
  • Support students working in an online format.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work successfully in a high-attendance, high-volume study center.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Hourly employees must work 480 hours in a rolling six-month period to become eligible for health benefits.
  • Hourly employees must work 70 hours in any five months for two consecutive years to become eligible for retirement.
