The City of Bell Gardens Recreation & Community Services Department is hiring a Recreation Leader II - Lifeguard to ensure pool safety and lead swim programs.

Salary / Pay Package: $18 per hour.

Qualification

Applicants must be at least 16 years old and in the 11th grade or higher. One or more seasons of lifeguard or swim instructor experience is desirable, along with experience leading children in group settings.

  • Must be at least 16 years of age at time of application and in the eleventh grade or higher.
  • Students under 18 who have not completed high school must submit a valid Work Permit.
  • One or more seasons of lifeguard or swim instructor experience is desirable.
  • Experience working with children of all ages in a group setting is preferred.
  • Direct experience in leadership, volunteer work, or recreation activities is highly desirable.
  • Must possess current Red Cross First Aid, Red Cross or AHA CPR, and Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificates at time of hire.
  • Knowledge of lifesaving techniques, first aid, and pool maintenance required.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable.
Role Responsibilities

Monitor swimming and pool activities to ensure safety of patrons.

  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer CPR and first aid.
  • Enforce pool safety rules, regulations, and facility policies.
  • Inspect swimming pool for cleanliness and perform routine maintenance.
  • Conduct chemical tests of water and keep records of test results and chemicals used.
  • Organize and instruct swim classes for various age groups.
  • Keep daily log of rescues and emergencies; prepare written reports.
  • Assist cashier and perform other related duties as assigned.
