The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is the principal federal investigative agency of the United States Department of Justice. Since 1908, the FBI has protected the American people and upheld the U.S. Constitution. Its mission is to help protect individuals, communities, and businesses from the most dangerous threats facing the nation, including terrorism, espionage, cybercrime, public corruption, organized crime, white-collar crime, and violent crime. The FBI operates with four strategic priorities: crush violent crime, defend the homeland, rebuild public trust, and maintain fierce organizational accountability. The agency is headquartered at 935 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20535, and maintains field offices across the U.S. and overseas.
As of July 2026, the FBI continues to deliver results for the American people, reporting a 20% drop in the nationwide murder rate, over 51,200 violent crime arrests (up 114%), and more than 8,370 child victims located (up 24%). The Bureau has seized over 3,260 kilos of fentanyl and disrupted 4,449+ gangs and criminal enterprises. Under Director Kash Patel, the FBI has emphasized aggressive enforcement against violent crime, terrorism, and transnational gangs, including a 365% increase in gang arrests. The FBI also successfully secured the FIFA World Cup 2026, the largest special security event ever held in the United States.
