Job Description

This position is for a Rigging Work (Forklift Operator) within the Department of the Navy, located at Point Loma Complex in San Diego, California.

You will assist journeyman Riggers in setting up hoisting and pulling gear for lifting, moving, and positioning heavy loads.

Work involves fabricating, installing, and repairing standing and running rigging, wire and fiber rope items such as slings, towing bridles, nets, and other ship and boat rigging.

You will also handle test weights and operate electric, gasoline, or diesel powered forklift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing 10,000 pounds or more. Driving forklifts over rough and muddy terrain through narrow aisles in outside storage areas is typical.

This role is full-time and falls under the WG-6 pay grade. The hiring agency is the Department of the Navy - Agency Wide.. With multiple possible work sites including Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.. Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.. Norfolk Naval Shipyard..

Trident Refit Facility Bangor.. And Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. This job suits individuals with hands-on experience in rigging and forklift operation who can work without more than normal supervision.

Salary & Compensation

Salary / Pay Package: $22 - $34 per hour.

Qualification

Role Responsibilities

  • Assist in fabricating, installing, and repairing standing and running rigging, wire and fiber rope items such as slings, towing bridles, nets, and other ship and boat rigging.
  • Handle test weights.
  • Operate electric, gasoline, or diesel powered forklift trucks capable of lifting loads weighing 10,000 pounds or more.
  • Drive forklift trucks over rough and muddy terrain through narrow aisles in outside storage areas.
  • May be required to lift 100 pounds and occasionally carry equipment up to 60 pounds.
  • Work may be performed in shops and aboard ships and submarines.

Salary range: $22.23

  • This position may require travel CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites.
  • May require work uncommon tours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Overtime or night differential pay may be required.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, safety shoes).
  • May be subject to drug testing and medical surveillance programs.
