Job Description

The Department of the Navy is hiring a Pipefitter Supervisor I (WS 10) to oversee pipefitting operations at naval shipyards and maintenance facilities, with a primary location at Point Loma Complex in San Diego, CA.

This role is part of the Navy's civilian workforce supporting fleet readiness at sites including Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard.

As a Pipefitter Supervisor I, you will plan work schedules, set priorities, and instruct subordinates on work methods, procedures, and safe practices. You will also make recommendations on training requirements and personnel qualifications.

Salary & Compensation

Estimated market salary: $45,000 - $85,000 per year.

Qualification

To qualify for the Pipefitter Supervisor I (WS 10) position, you must demonstrate the ability to lead or supervise, which is the screen-out element. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the quality of your experience and training, not necessarily the length of time.

  • Ability to lead or supervise (screen-out element; minimum 2 points required).
  • Experience planning work schedules and establishing priorities.
  • Knowledge of pipefitting methods, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Skill in instructing subordinates on work requirements and techniques.
  • Experience making recommendations on training and personnel qualifications.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in direct deposit pay program.
  • Must pass pre-appointment physical examination and drug test.
  • Must obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Role Responsibilities

Plan work schedules of subordinates and establish priorities based on general work schedules and instructions from higher supervision.

  • Make recommendations concerning training requirements, skills, and qualifications of personnel.
  • Instruct subordinates regarding work requirements, methods, procedures, safe work practices, and scheduling requirements.
  • Assign work to subordinates and ensure completion within deadlines.
  • Monitor work quality and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Coordinate with other supervisors and departments to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Maintain records and reports on work progress and personnel performance.

Additional Information

This is a full-time position with the Department of the Navy, pay grade WS 10.

  • Hourly pay ranges from $36.59 to $59.52 per hour.
  • Multiple locations available: San Diego, CA; Pearl Harbor, HI; Portsmouth, ME; Philadelphia, PA; Portsmouth, VA; Bangor, WA; Bremerton, WA; Everett, WA.
  • Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC.
  • Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft, possibly to remote or isolated sites.
  • May be required to work uncommon tours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
