Job Description

The Veterans Health Administration is hiring a Physician - Endocrinologist to provide complete outpatient endocrine and diabetic care at the Fredericksburg Health Care Center (FxHCC) in Virginia.

This role is part of the VA Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6) and involves managing patients with ongoing medical conditions, performing diagnostic testing, and collaborating with midlevel providers and physician colleagues.

The physician will interpret EKGs, review bone density studies, and perform thyroid fine needle aspiration biopsies. This position offers a competitive salary.. Annual performance bonus.. Regular salary increases..

And a complete federal benefits package including 50-55 days of paid time off per year.. A traditional federal pension.. And a 401K with up to 5% VA contributions. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Qualification

To qualify for this Physician

  • Endocrinologist position (Grade VM 00), you must meet basic requirements: U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited), a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school, and a current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. State or territory.
  • U.S. citizenship required; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S., or the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility.
  • Residency must be ACGME or AOA accredited; non-U.S. residencies require five years of verified U.S. practice.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination and drug screening.
  • Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program required.
  • Applicants pending completion of training or license may be tentatively selected but not hired until all requirements are met.
Role Responsibilities

Provide consultative outpatient endocrine and diabetic patient care at Fredericksburg Health Care Center.

  • Interview, examine, and select diagnostic testing appropriately; interpret and collate results to coordinate patient care.
  • Communicate and document clearly with patients and medical personnel to coordinate care.
  • Supervise midlevel providers within the Endocrine section as applicable.
  • Interpret EKGs, review bone density studies, and perform thyroid fine needle aspiration biopsies.
  • Provide consultative input to outpatient care and collaborate with midlevel providers and physician colleagues.
  • Participate in educational programs for section personnel and medical staff.
  • Monitor quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care at the section and facility level; participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
