Job Description
The Physician Assistant (Primary Care) serves the Central Texas VA Health Care System at the Brownwood VA Clinic, located at 2600 Memorial Park Drive, Brownwood, TX 76801. This role is part of the Ambulatory Care Service and focuses on community-based outpatient clinical care.
The PA independently manages a panel of general medicine patients, functioning as their primary care provider. Duties include performing history and physical exams, ordering and evaluating lab tests, providing preventive medicine services, managing chronic disease problems, and coordinating outpatient follow-up care.
The PA must demonstrate knowledge of age-related care and be flexible to meet service line needs. Telework is not available, and relocation incentives are not authorized. Work schedule is typically Monday-Friday, 0730-1600 CST, with possible extended hours and weekends.
Candidates must be willing to work irregular hours and be assigned to other locations if necessary.
Salary & Compensation
Salary / Pay Package: $114,291 - $180,592 per year.
Qualification
Applicants must meet basic requirements: U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited).. Proficiency in spoken and written English.. A master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree with one year PA experience.. Successful passage of the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE).. And a full and unrestricted license to practice in a state or territory.

- Proficiency in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d).
- Master's degree in any discipline, OR a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant.
- Successful passage of the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) or in the process of taking the exam.
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Grade determinations based on experience and demonstrated KSAs: PA-I (entry level), PA-II (intermediate, 2 years practice or postgraduate residency or doctoral degree), PA-III (full performance, 3 years practice or postgraduate residency).
- Must pass pre-employment physical examination and urinalysis drug screening.
- Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination program required for all VA Health Care Personnel.
- Must complete a background/security investigation and online onboarding process.
Role Responsibilities
Manage a panel of general medicine patients as their primary care provider.
- Perform complete history and physical examinations.
- Order and evaluate appropriate laboratory tests and diagnostic studies.
- Provide preventive medicine services, including health maintenance and screenings.
- Manage chronic disease problems such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
- Coordinate outpatient follow-up care and ensure continuity of care.
- Communicate care plans and coordinate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Demonstrate knowledge of age-related changes and provide care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, and safety factors.
