Job Description
The Department of the Navy is hiring a Production Shop Planner (General) to support shipyard operations at multiple locations including San Diego, CA.
This full-time WD-6 position involves planning and coordinating production work across trades, inspecting work sites, and interpreting blueprints and specifications. You will assign work based on workload, priorities, and employee capabilities, and review process instructions and standards.
The role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work with all levels of authority. This position is ideal for experienced trade and labor professionals who want to apply their production support skills in a federal shipyard environment.
Multiple work sites are available, including Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC.
Salary & Compensation
Estimated market salary: $45,000 - $85,000 per year.
Qualification
This position has a screen-out element: Ability to Provide Production Support Services. Applicants must receive at least two points on this element to be eligible. Qualification is based on quality of experience, not length of time.

Role Responsibilities
Make work site inspections to determine planning requirements, progress, and status of expenditures.
- Plan assignment of work based on workload, priorities, employee performance, capabilities, and training needs.
- Review process instructions, methods, standards, and similar documents prior to issue.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, manuals, memoranda, and sketches.
- Apply theories, principles, practices, and techniques of trade skills.
- Apply working knowledge of quality assurance, testing, combat systems, engineering, and planning practices.
- Communicate orally and in writing with all levels of authority.
- Exercise tactful persuasiveness and sound judgment in contacts within the shipyard.

Salary range: $34.07
- $51.32 per hour (pay grade WD-6).

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- May require travel CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites.
- May require uncommon tours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must wear personal protective equipment and may be exposed to hazardous conditions.
- Random drug testing may be required.
