Job Description

The Department of the Navy is hiring a Marine Machinery Mechanic Supervisor I (WS 10) to lead teams performing troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, and installation of marine engines and auxiliary equipment on vessels.

Work sites include Point Loma Complex in San Diego, CA, as well as Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor, and other locations.

In this role, you will assign tasks, ensure proper work methods, coordinate with contractor technical representatives, and review work for quality and adherence to deadlines. You will also support Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) programs and promote a safe, efficient work environment.

This position is ideal for experienced marine machinery mechanics with supervisory experience who want to apply their technical leadership skills in a federal shipyard or naval maintenance facility.

Estimated market salary: $45,000 - $85,000 per year.

Qualification

This WS-10 Marine Machinery Mechanic Supervisor I position has a screen-out element: Ability to Lead or Supervise. Applicants must demonstrate through experience and training the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties. Emphasis is on quality of experience, not length of time.

  • Experience must show knowledge and skill in troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and installing marine engines and auxiliary equipment such as propulsion machinery, generators, pumps, compressors, and fire fighting systems.
  • Experience coordinating with contractor technical representatives and directing workers in a marine maintenance environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Experience in federal or military shipyard maintenance is beneficial but not required.
  • Must meet OPM Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
  • Volunteer work may be credited if it demonstrates relevant skills.
Role Responsibilities

Direct personnel in troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, and installing marine engines and propulsion machinery.

  • Coordinate with contractor technical representatives for troubleshooting, analysis, and repairs.
  • Assign immediate tasks to individual workers and ensure proper work methods, plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available.
  • Monitor work in progress and upon completion to ensure instructions on sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines are met.
  • Review products for acceptability and determine satisfactory amount and quality of work.
  • Actively support and promote all aspects of the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Program.
  • Enforce safety regulations and ensure use of personal protective equipment.
