Qualification

To qualify for the Information Technology Manager-Fire position, candidates must meet specific education and experience requirements. The minimum qualifications typically include a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field, and several years of progressively responsible IT management experience.

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of professional experience in information technology, including two years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • Experience in a fire department or public safety environment is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of fire department operations and emergency response systems.
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) or ITIL is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation and medical examination.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have legal authorization to work in the United States.
Role Responsibilities

Plan, direct, and coordinate the Fire Department's information technology operations.

  • Develop and implement IT policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Manage the installation, maintenance, and security of computer systems, networks, and telecommunications.
  • Oversee the development and support of fire-specific applications, including computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and records management systems (RMS).
  • Supervise IT staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Prepare and administer the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Coordinate with county IT departments and external vendors to ensure system interoperability.
  • Ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to fire department personnel.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
