Job Description
San Bernardino County is recruiting a Maintenance Supervisor to lead teams responsible for the ongoing maintenance, preventive maintenance, repair, and operation of County facilities throughout the county.
This role is ideal for experienced supervisors who can plan, assign, coordinate, and review the work of maintenance staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure County buildings and infrastructure remain safe, efficient, and cost-effective.
Qualification
Candidates must have two years of journey-level experience in one or more of the building or mechanical trades, including one year of lead or supervisory experience. Additional qualifying experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Two years of journey-level experience in one or more building or mechanical trades (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting).
- One year of lead or supervisory experience over maintenance staff or contractors.
- Possession of a valid California Class C driver license at time of appointment.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and building codes.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (additional experience may substitute).
- Certification in a trade (e.g., HVAC, electrical) is desirable but not required.
Role Responsibilities
Plan, assign, coordinate, and review the work of maintenance staff, contractors, and vendors.
- Inspect County facilities to identify maintenance needs and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Review and prioritize work orders and service requests from County departments.
- Coordinate maintenance and repair activities with contractors, vendors, and internal departments.
- Maintain accurate records through computerized maintenance management systems.
- Interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications for repairs, renovations, and modifications.
- Oversee grounds maintenance including landscape, irrigation, tree care, and contracted services.
- Coordinate fire and life safety system inspections and maintenance as assigned.
Conditions & Requirements
Must possess a valid California Class C driver license at time of appointment.
- May be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays for emergency maintenance.
- Must pass a background check and physical examination if required.
- Some assignments may require climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects, or working in confined spaces.
- Must be available for on-call duty as needed.
