About A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) is a Cabinet-level agency of the United States government, established on May 4, 1980, by the Department of Education Organization Act. Its mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access. ED administers federal student aid programs, oversees accreditation of postsecondary institutions, and provides resources for students, families, and educators across all levels of education. The Department's headquarters is located at 400 Maryland Ave, SW Washington, DC 20202.
As of July 2026, the U.S. Department of Education continues to operate under a preliminary injunction issued on May 22, 2025, in State of New York v. McMahon, which blocks the reduction-in-force announced on March 11, 2025, and requires reinstatement of terminated employees. The Department remains focused on its statutory functions, including federal student aid, civil rights enforcement, and educational research.
