The A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center, Director for Mental Health Child & Adol Mental Health, is hiring a Psychology Technician at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
This full-time GS-7 position supports behavioral health services by conducting patient intake, scheduling appointments, providing crisis intervention, and assisting credentialed providers with diagnosis and treatment planning. Qualification
US citizens may apply. You must meet one year of specialized experience at the GS-06 level, including conducting intake for behavioral health patients, educating/counseling patients, and maintaining records. Alternatively, one full year of graduate education in a directly related field such as Psychology, Human Services, or Counseling may substitute.

- One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06, including intake, education/counseling, and record maintenance for behavioral health patients.
- OR one full year of graduate education in Psychology, Human Services, Child & Family Welfare, Counseling, Crisis, Substance Abuse, Mental Health, Chemical Dependence, Family and Community Services, Behavioral Science, Human Development, Social Work, Sociology, or Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling.
- Combination of education and experience may qualify (compute percentages: months of experience/12 + graduate semester hours/18 = at least 100%).
- Volunteer work (Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, etc.) counts as qualifying experience.
- Foreign education must be evaluated by a recognized credentialing service equivalent to U.S. accredited programs.
- Resume must clearly describe relevant experience; transcripts required if using education.
- Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must register for Selective Service.
- One-year probationary period required.
- Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
Role Responsibilities
Arrange and schedule mental health appointments; determine patient eligibility for services.
- Interview patients requesting mental health treatment to obtain pertinent information.
- Maintain daily appointment schedules and prepare documents/reports using automated systems.
- Provide crisis intervention, group therapy, and administrative case management under supervision of credentialed providers.
- Assist credentialed providers in identifying mental health diagnoses.
- Coordinate and conduct suicide prevention briefings and training.
Conditions & Requirements
Moderate risk Public Trust background investigation including credit check.
- Background investigation and periodic re-verification due to interaction with children under 18.
- Immunization screening required; Hepatitis B immunization for direct patient contact; seasonal influenza vaccination required unless exempted.
- Tuberculosis testing required.
- Mission Essential designation: must report or remain during emergencies.
- May require on-call duty including evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules.
- Direct Deposit of Pay required.
- Selection subject to DoD referral system for displaced employees.
