About Air Mobility Command
Air Mobility Command (AMC) is a major command of the U.S. Air Force, headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. As the air mobility component of the United States Transportation Command, AMC provides rapid global mobility and sustainment for America's armed forces. The command operates a vast fleet of aircraft including the C-5 Galaxy, C-17 Globemaster III, C-130 Hercules, KC-135 Stratotanker, and KC-46 Pegasus, executing airlift, air refueling, aeromedical evacuation, and global air mobility support missions. AMC's core mission sets—airlift, air refueling, aeromedical evacuation, and the Global Air Mobility Support System—enable the Joint Force to project power and deliver humanitarian assistance worldwide.

Eighteenth Air Force (18 AF) is a component of Air Mobility Command, headquartered at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. It ensures readiness and sustainment of approximately 19,000 active duty, Air Force Reserve, and civilian Airmen at eight wings and two direct reporting units. With more than 400 aircraft, 18 AF supports AMC’s worldwide mission of providing rapid global mobility through airlift, airdrop, aerial refueling, aeromedical evacuation, and the global air mobility support system. The unit is commanded by a two-star general.
Air Mobility Command today
As of July 2026, Air Mobility Command continues to execute its core mission of rapid global mobility. Recent activities include the 317th Airlift Wing's participation in Exercise Valiant Shield, the 621st Contingency Response Wing's earthquake relief deployment to Venezuela, and the inactivation of the 12th Air Task Force as the Air Force transitions to the Air Expeditionary Wing 2.0 model. The command also celebrated the retirement of Chief Master Sgt. Jamie Newman, AMC command chief, after 31 years of service.
