About Baltimore VA Medical Center
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) is a Cabinet-level agency of the United States government, established on May 4, 1980, by the Department of Education Organization Act. Its mission is to promote student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness by fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access. ED administers federal student aid programs, enforces civil rights laws in education, and oversees programs ranging from early childhood through postsecondary education. The Department is headquartered at 400 Maryland Ave, SW Washington, DC 20202.
As of July 2026, the U.S. Department of Education continues to enforce civil rights in education, including investigations into medical schools for alleged racial discrimination in admissions.
