About Defense Health Agency
The Defense Health Agency (DHA) is a United States Department of Defense combat support agency that operates the world's premier military health enterprise. Its mission is to generate and sustain warfighter readiness by delivering joint warfighting capabilities including medical logistics, IT infrastructure, trauma systems, research, pharmacy, and blood support. The agency manages a global health system covering locations from the continental U.S. to Belgium, Japan, and beyond. DHA oversees nine Defense Health Networks that organize military hospitals and clinics to provide coordinated, high-quality healthcare to service members, retirees, and their families.
As of July 2026, the Defense Health Agency is deploying ambient listening technology across the Military Health System to reduce administrative burden and improve patient care. The phased deployment began in February 2026 and is expected to complete in Spring 2026. DHA continues to focus on warfighter readiness through initiatives such as updated clinical guidelines for osteoarthritis, innovative brain diagnostic systems at Walter Reed, and partnerships with the Marine Corps to refine portable TBI assessment technology.
