About Government Security and Intelligent Documents
The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) is the Federal Government's official publisher, serving all three branches of government. Its mission is to publish trusted information for the Federal Government to the American people. GPO produces and distributes information products and services, including U.S. passports for the Department of State, official publications of Congress, the White House, and other Federal agencies in digital and print formats. It provides permanent public access to Federal Government information at no charge through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and GovInfo. GPO operates distribution centers in Laurel, MD and Pueblo, CO that fulfill orders for Government publications.
As of July 2026, GPO continues to modernize its operations, with recent news highlighting employee milestones such as Kerry Miller's appointment as General Counsel after starting as a summer intern in 1980, and Ravinder Birdi leading the next phase of modernization. GPO has been named a Best Employer in America for New Graduates and has launched public access to 1.2 million historic government records dating back to 1895. The agency also doubled Congressionally Mandated Reports on GovInfo and reached over 15 billion accesses to government information.
