The Inglewood Unified School District is hiring an Accountant to perform responsible and technical accounting duties, with primary responsibility for accounts payable functions.
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services or designee, you will review, audit, process, and reconcile financial transactions, maintain accurate financial records, and prepare financial, statistical, and budgetary reports.
This role ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and District policies, and assists in developing and implementing financial procedures and internal controls.
Qualification
Candidates must have the education and experience necessary to perform complex accounting work. A typical qualifying background includes a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and progressively responsible accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
- Two or more years of professional accounting experience, preferably in a public agency or school district setting.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards.
- Experience with accounts payable processes, including invoice review, payment processing, and vendor reconciliation.
- Proficiency in financial software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems; experience with district-specific systems is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise financial reports and statements.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with staff, vendors, and auditors.
- Valid California driver's license may be required for travel between district sites.
Role Responsibilities
Perform technical accounting duties with primary focus on accounts payable, including reviewing, auditing, processing, and reconciling financial transactions.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers in compliance with District policies and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare financial, statistical, and budgetary reports for management and external agencies.
- Assist in the development and implementation of financial procedures and internal controls.
- Provide technical guidance and training to clerical accounting support positions.
- Reconcile bank statements, vendor accounts, and general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.
- Monitor and process purchase orders, invoices, and payment requests ensuring proper authorization and documentation.
- Assist with year-end closing processes and audit preparation, including gathering supporting documentation.
- Respond to inquiries from vendors, district staff, and auditors regarding financial transactions and policies.
- Stay current with changes in accounting standards and regulations affecting school district finance.
