Job Description

The City of Santa Clara is hiring As-Needed Per Diem Dispatchers to aid public safety operations at the Santa Clara Police/Fire Communications center and at Levi's Stadium.

This is an at-will, as-needed role with no guarantee of hours; hours are capped at 999 per fiscal year (960 for retired CalPERS annuitants). Dispatchers handle emergency and non-emergency calls, work radio consoles and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems, organize responses, and maintain logs.

Salary & Compensation

Estimated marketplace pay: $45,000 - $85,000 per year.

Qualification

You must have a existing P.O.S.T. Elementary Dispatch certificate and encounter one of the following know-how paths: two years of paid public safety dispatching within the past five years (covering at least one year solo)..

Or five years of current paid employment with a public safety or confidential EMS agency involving high-level CAD/radio/telephone operations.. Or completion of probation as a Public Safety Dispatcher I with Santa Clara.

• Two years of paid public safety dispatching expertise within the last five years, with at least one year in solo status. • Present P.O.S.T. Fundamental Dispatch certificate required.
• Capacity to perform weekends, holidays, and non-traditional hours.
• Must pass a city background investigation including fingerprinting and psychological testing.
• Typing speed of 35 wpm net on a computer keyboard.
• Aptitude to distinguish colors on video displays and comprehend simultaneous communications.

Role Responsibilities

• Run base radio console equipment to transmit and receive routine and emergency messages.
• Receive emergency and routine requests via 9-1-1, alternate emergency lines, and firm lines.
• Dispatch proper emergency vehicles, equipment, and personnel per established procedures.
• Arrange emergency operations between departmental personnel and equipment.
• Work information terminals for public safety information and general emergency solutions.
• Uphold written logs, files, and computer info; update records as directed.
• Apply emergency medical questioning techniques and offer medical instructions via telephone when called for.
