Job Description

The City of Santa Clara's Silicon Valley Power (SVP) is seeking an Assistant Electric Utility Engineer to join its engineering team. SVP provides over 40% of Santa Clara's electricity from carbon-free renewable resources, including wind, solar, geothermal, and landfill methane gas.

Under direct supervision, you will perform entry-level professional electric utility engineering work in system planning, design, construction, and maintenance programs. You will assist in conducting design, establishing standards, and implementing construction projects.

This role is ideal for recent graduates or early-career engineers with a Bachelor's in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited) or an EIT certificate plus one year of experience.

You will be part of a progressive, service-oriented utility focused on reliability, competitive pricing, and customer service. The position may be assigned to any division within the Electric Department, reporting to a Principal or Senior Engineer.

This recruitment may fill multiple positions across divisions.

Qualification

To qualify, you need a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university. Alternatively, a California Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate plus at least 1 year of relevant engineering office or field work is accepted.

  • Ability to perform all essential functions of the job, including shift work, weekends, and emergency response.
