Job Description
The City of Santa Clara's Silicon Valley Power (SVP) is seeking an Assistant Electric Utility Engineer to join its engineering crew. SVP offers over 40% of Santa Clara's electricity from carbon-free renewable references, such as wind, solar, geothermal, and landfill methane gas.
Under frank supervision, you’ll perform entry-level expert electric utility engineering perform in system planning, design, construction, and maintenance programs. You’ll support with carrying out design, setting up standards, and carrying out construction projects.
This role is perfect for recent graduates or early-career engineers with a Bachelor's in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited) or an EIT certificate plus one year of background. You’ll be section of a progressive, service-oriented utility focused on reliability, competitive pricing, and customer solution.
The role may be assigned to any division within the Electric Department, reporting to a Principal or Experienced Engineer. This recruitment may fill multiple positions across divisions.
Salary & Compensation
Salary / Settle Package: $145,678 - $185,797 per year.
Qualification
To qualify, you require a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university. Alternatively, a California Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate plus at least 1 year of relevant engineering office or field work is accepted.

- OR possession of a California Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate and at least 1 year of electrical or mechanical engineering office/field experience.
- Expertise using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Expression, Excel, PowerPoint, MATLAB).
- Sound California Class C driver's license at time of appointment and throughout employment.
- Desirable: Registration as an Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineer in California.
- Desirable: Know-how with ESRI-based Geographic Details System (GIS).
- Capacity to perform all vital functions of the role, covering shift function, weekends, and emergency response.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.; the Town won’t sponsor H1B or other visa submissions.
