The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is hiring an Assistant Librarian for the Talkeetna Public Library. This full-time position supports the day-to-day operations, programs, and services of a public library within the Borough library system.

Qualification
Candidates must possess an associate's degree in a course of study directly related to the occupational field.. Or a high school diploma (or equivalent) combined with post-secondary education or experience that provides the required expertise on a year-for-year basis. One year of experience in a similar position is required.
- Associate's degree in a field directly related to library work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent accepted with additional post-secondary education or experience substituting for the associate's degree on a year-for-year basis.
- One year of experience in a similar position, demonstrating understanding of basic principles relevant to the major duties.
- Preferred: library experience and/or customer service experience.
- Good people skills and ability to interact effectively with the public.
- Familiarity with common business machines and computer operations.
- Familiarity with developing and leading programs for toddlers, preschool, elementary, middle, high school, and/or adults is a plus.
- Possession of or ability to obtain any required certifications or clearances.
Role Responsibilities
Assist with day-to-day operations of the Talkeetna Public Library.
- Support library programs and services for patrons of all ages.
- Provide customer service and assist patrons with locating materials and using library resources.
- Operate common business machines and computer systems.
- Develop and lead programs for toddlers, preschool, elementary, middle, high school, and/or adults as assigned.
- Maintain library collections and ensure materials are organized and accessible.
- Enforce library policies and procedures to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
- Collaborate with other library staff to achieve departmental goals.

- Ability to pass a background check if required.
- Possession of a valid driver's license may be required for travel between library branches.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends if needed.
- Physical ability to perform library tasks such as lifting books and standing for extended periods.
