Associate Service Chief, Pharmacy Operations

You must be U.S. Citizens and licensed pharmacists with a complete, present, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the U.S., or the District of Columbia. A graduate degree from an ACPE-accredited college or school of pharmacy (BS Pharmacy or Pharm.D.) is called for.

• English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
• Education: Graduate of an ACPE-accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
• Foreign graduates must offer proof of reaching the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, such as passing the FPGEE and TOEFL iBT.
• Licensure: Packed, existing, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the U.S., or the District of Columbia.
• Physical Conditions: Must encounter the physical standards outlined in VA Directive and Handbook 5019.
• Candidates pending completion of educational or licensure requirements may be tentatively selected but can’t be hired until all needs are met.
• Grandfathering Provision: Licensed pharmacists employed in VHA on the reliable date of the qualification normal are considered to have met all conditions for the title, series, and grade held.
• Non-licensed pharmacists may be given a temporary appointment as a Graduate Pharmacist under 38 U.S.C. § 7405(c)(2)(B) for up to 2 years, but must be licensed for grades above GS-11.

Blueprints, organizes, and implements all Pharmacy Offering operational and distributive programs.

• Anticipates issues, builds solutions, and formulates schemes to gather workload demands and patient wants.
• Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
• Serves on significant administrative medical center committees, such as the VISN Pharmacy Procurement Operate Cluster.
• Communicates effectively both orally and in writing about complicated clinical and technical matters.
• Ensures compliance with all VHA, DEA, and other federal procurement regulations about prescription drugs and controlled substances accountability and security.
• Supervises inventory management systems in both inpatient and outpatient settings and arranges annual wall-to-wall drug inventory.
• Supervises all pharmacy staff associated with Pharmacy Distributive Operations.
• Serves as Acting Chief of Pharmacy in the Chief's absence.
