The City of Berkeley is hiring an Associate Transportation Engineer to join the Public Works Department, specifically within the Measure FF group. This role focuses on delivering a wide variety of capital improvement projects that enhance transportation infrastructure in Berkeley.

Qualification

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for Associate Transportation Engineer as established by the City of Berkeley. Typically, this includes a combination of education and experience in transportation engineering.

  • Four years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience in transportation or traffic engineering.

Role Responsibilities

Manage consultant teams through all phases of project development: planning, concept development, public outreach, detailed design, bid/award, and construction.

  • Develop project scopes, coordinate tasks, and review deliverables including plans, specifications, and engineer's estimates.
  • Ensure compliance with City policies, engineering standards, MUTCD, Caltrans guidance, ADA/PROWAG, NACTO, and Vision Zero.
  • Coordinate with City departments and divisions to share knowledge and pursue efficiencies for Measure FF work.
  • Oversee construction management and inspection consultants.
  • Perform project implementation tasks including schedule oversight and quality management.
  • Participate in public meetings and present project updates to stakeholders.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets and funding allocations.
  • Review and approve change orders and contract modifications.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff as needed.
Conditions & Requirements
