The Indian Health Solution (IHS) is hiring a Dentist (Endodontics) to serve at the Whiteriver Offering Unit in Whiteriver, Arizona.
This role is part of the Dental Department under Medical Services and centers on providing specialized endodontic care to the designated patient population.
As the clinical specialist in endodontics, you’ll diagnose and treat complex dental conditions including severe caries, periodontal disease, and trauma to the oral cavity.
Qualification
To qualify for this GP-13 Dentist (Endodontics) post, you must meet basic education and licensure needs, plus specialized background or a wrapped up residency. Federal employees must also meet time-in-grade rules if registering under merit promotion.
- Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from an ADA- or CODA-accredited school.
- Passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE).
- Present, complete, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a U.S. State, DC, Puerto Rico, or territory.
- At least one year of specialized expertise equivalent to GP-12 in federal solution, performing endodontic diagnosis and treatment, involved root canals, and managing medically compromised patients.
- OR completion of a 3-year residency plan in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or related medical science.
- Aptitude to distinguish shades of color (medical condition).
- Time-in-Grade: For competitive offering candidates, one year at the next lower grade (GP-12) is needed. Excepted Solution Examining Strategy (ESEP) appointees are exempt from time-in-grade.
- All qualification conditions must be met within 30 days of the closing date (July 31, 2026).
Role Responsibilities
Diagnose endodontic conditions using patient history, radiographs, examinations, and diagnostic models.
- Perform endodontic restoration of teeth with severe caries, periodontal disease, and trauma.
- Supply emergency solutions including treatment of trauma, pain, and infection.
- Participate in developing and rolling out continuing education courses for the IHS dental scheme.
- Offer technical guidance to offering unit dentists on straight and contract endodontic programs.
- Organize with multidisciplinary teams as independently managing intricate specialty cases.
- Make sure compliance with infection control standards and IHS policies.
