Job Description

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is hiring a Laundry Worker for the Environmental Management Service (EMS) at the VA Northern California Health Care System in Martinez, California.

In this role, you will perform all textile duties to provide clean and disinfected linens to all areas within the healthcare system.

This position is ideal for individuals who are detail-oriented, physically capable of standing and lifting throughout a shift, and committed to supporting patient care through essential linen services.

Salary & Compensation

Salary: $21.67 - $25.24 per hour.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain the linen room and any pre-designated linen rooms.
  • Accurately and efficiently load and unload linen carts, using linen that has been in storage the longest.
  • Use proper technique in distributing and picking up linen to prevent cross contamination.
  • Issue, mark, repair, and salvage surgical linen, drapes, pillows, employee uniforms, cubicle and shower curtains.
  • Sort uniform apparel using assigned numbers to document, and forward uniforms to the consolidated laundry facility for laundering.
  • Receive, store, inventory, and distribute linen to the facility daily.
  • Adjust deliveries to meet the changing needs of the facility.
  • Weigh and maintain daily records in pounds to ensure linen in each unit is accounted for properly.
  • Responsible for the security of linen keys assigned and return them to the supervisor at the end of the shift.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.

  • Work schedule: Varied tours, Monday - Friday, Sun-Sat/Weekends and/or Holidays.
  • Physical requirements: continuous walking, standing, stooping, lifting, reaching, and bending.
