Job Description

Legal Administrative Specialist (Contact Representation) is listed by Continental District VA Regional Offices in Des Moines. The Legal Administrative Specialist (LAS) serves on the Public Contact Team within the Veterans Offering Center at the Continental District VA Regional Offices in Des Moines, Iowa.

In this role, you’ll counsel Veterans, their dependents, and beneficiaries on all VA upsides and related non-VA advantages.

You’ll explain the documents needed to process claims, help with obtaining and finishing forms, examine claims and route them to the suitable section, and communicate VA decisions to claimants.

You’ll also arrange technical correspondence, carry out meetings at VA facilities and outreach events, and cater to as the facility detail of contact and advocate for Veterans dealing with other VA elements.

This role is eligible for situational (ad hoc) telework only, significance you must report to the authorized task station each scheduled the formal application portal. The work is mostly sedentary but involves extensive computer and telephone use, commonly under high pressure.

Salary & Compensation

Salary: $67,970 per year.

Qualification

To qualify for this GS-10 Permitted Administrative Specialist post, you must be a present permanent VA employee and encounter time-in-grade requirements: 52 weeks at the GS-09 level. You may qualify through specialized expertise or education as described below.

  • You must be a current permanent Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) employee to apply.
  • Time-in-Grade: You must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09 level (or higher) in the Federal service within the last 52 weeks.
  • If you’re a current VBA employee outside the commuting domain seeking reassignment or alter to lower grade, you must currently keep GS-10 or higher with promotion potential at least GS-10.
  • Specialized Background (GS-10): Know-how relating to persons from many backgrounds about VA gains programs. And expertise performing research of local, state, and Federal laws and regulations to decide Veterans' eligibility for upsides programs.
  • Education Substitution: Two and a half years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. Or equivalent doctoral degree may substitute for background. Graduate education must reveal competencies needed for the role.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Counsel Veterans, their dependents, and beneficiaries about all advantages on offer through the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as non-VA benefits open through other bodies concerned with Veterans.
  • Clarify the categories of documents needed to facilitate timely processing of claims and give assistance in obtaining and finishing such documents and forms set on the sort of claim being handed in.
  • Assess claims for Veterans and forward the proper request to the appropriate section for action.
  • Outline decisions created by the VA and communicate the reasons to the claimant for these decisions.
