Job Description
The Department of the Navy is hiring a Machinist Supervisor I to supervise machining operations at Detail Loma Complex in San Diego, California.
In this WS-10 supervisory role, you’ll lead a group using conventional and computer numerical control (CNC) machine utilities to repair and manufacture sections from natural stock.
You’ll decide work procedures, pick machine resources and attachments, and place speeds and feeds to attain needed finishes and tolerances. Function is performed from blueprints, sketches, operate orders, or models.
You’ll also form dimensions, chase threads, machine angular surfaces, and perform layout perform for setups on conventional or CNC equipment.
This role demands adapting equipment for odd machining procedures, using distinct or improvised instruments and fixtures to machine curved surfaces requiring feeds in varied planes simultaneously.
Materials cover aluminum, brass, bronze, high carbon and alloy steels, chrome, nickel, titanium, molybdenum, super alloys, nylon, rubber, plastics, and Teflon. This role is full-time with a closing date of October 13, 2026. You must be U.S.
Citizens and able to obtain a security clearance.
Salary & Compensation
Estimated marketplace pay: $98,000 - $124,000 per year.
Qualification
To qualify for the Machinist Supervisor I post (WS-10), you must display through know-how and training the aptitude to lead or manage. This is a screen-out element: candidates who don’t obtain at least two points on this element will be spotted ineligible.
- Capacity to lead or oversee (screen-out element).
- Experience using conventional and CNC machine utilities and attachments.
- Knowledge of machining operations on various metals and materials.
- Skill in reading blueprints, sketches, and work orders.
- Aptitude to work out function procedures, machine resources, and attachments.
- Expertise with layout work, dimensioning, and threading.
- Grade of background is emphasized over length of time.
Role Responsibilities
Supervise machinists in repair and manufacture of pieces from unprocessed stock.
- Select and set up conventional and CNC machine instruments and attachments.
- Decide speeds, feeds, and sequence of machining operations.
- Operate from blueprints, sketches, perform orders, or models.
- Perform layout work, locate reference points, and label surfaces.
- Adapt equipment for rare machining procedures and surface configurations.
- Machine various materials covering alloys, plastics, and composites.
- Make sure function meets called for finishes and tolerances.
