Qualification

To qualify for this GS-13 Mechanical Engineer position.. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must include knowledge of engineering principles for F135 Engine Support Equipment, SE acquisition and maintenance philosophy, and program management for SE delivery and site activation.

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and theories applicable to support development of F135 Engine Aircraft Support Equipment (SE) and the process by which SE is acquired.
  • Complete knowledge of SE and SE maintenance philosophy, both shore-based and shipboard.
  • Experience managing programs to provide for the acquisition and delivery of Support Equipment (SE) to existing and new fleet sites.
  • Experience with SE site activation.
  • Knowledge of Navy and Marine Corps Aircraft Maintenance practices ashore and afloat to determine the most cost-effective means of providing support.
  • Knowledge of database systems such as AUTOSERD, SERMIS, and SODARR.
  • Ability to generate acquisition strategy planning for determination of future SE requirements.
  • Knowledge of computers and familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, project schedule, and presentation software.
  • Ability to act as the Propulsion Engineering Team Leader.
  • Ability to understand current problems or limitations in the program area and to competently assess the feasibility of proposed improvements.
Role Responsibilities

Serve as lead propulsion engineer managing a diverse portfolio of F135 Engine Support Equipment (SE) spanning Organizational-level (O-level), Depot-level, and engine test cell environments.

  • Serve as a technical authority for propulsion systems support equipment, guiding efforts from initial concept, prototyping, and design through fielding and in-service sustainment.
  • Provide expert in-service engineering support to resolve complex technical challenges, investigating equipment failures, analyzing root causes, and developing and qualifying effective engineering solutions and design modifications.
  • Chair and/or participate authoritatively in technical design reviews (e.g., PDR, CDR) and integrated product team meetings, evaluating designs, and acting on behalf of submitted stakeholder and partner requirements.
  • Apply systems engineering principles to evaluate and approve new and modified support equipment, ensuring designs meet all required safety, reliability, and supportability requirements for both shore-based and shipboard environments.
  • Monitor technical performance and collaborate with contractors to ensure engineering efforts remain aligned with the budgets, schedules, and technical baselines dictated by the program office.
