The City of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, is seeking a skilled Mechanic to join the Fleet Division of the Community Services Department. This position performs skilled mechanical work in the maintenance, servicing, and repair of automotive, truck, and other mechanical equipment.

Duties include preventive maintenance.. General and major overhaul work on equipment with diesel and gasoline engines.. Repairing transmissions.. Clutches.. Hydraulic lifts.. Generators.. Differentials.. Starters.. And alternators.. Performing motor tune-ups and electrical repairs.. And using a computer to process work orders.

Qualification

To qualify for the Mechanic position.. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.. A valid driver's license.. And the ability to obtain a Wisconsin Class B CDL with no air brake restrictions within six months of hire. Preferred qualifications include two years of experience or an associate degree in automotive repair, heavy duty diesel mechanic, or a related field, and ASE Master Truck or Automotive Technician certification in diesel.

  • Possess or obtain (within 6 months of hire) and maintain a valid Wisconsin Class B CDL with no air brake restrictions.

  • Preferred: ASE Master Truck or Automotive Technician certification in diesel.
Role Responsibilities

Perform skilled mechanical work in the maintenance, servicing, and repair of automotive, truck, and other mechanical equipment.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform general and major overhaul work on equipment with diesel and gasoline engines.
  • Repair and maintain mechanical devices such as transmissions, clutches, hydraulic lifts, generators, differentials, starters, and alternators.
  • Perform motor tune-ups and electrical repairs.
  • Use a computer to process work orders and maintain records.
  • Work collaboratively in a team atmosphere.
  • Ensure all work meets safety and quality standards.
