Job Overview

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is hiring a Medical Administration Officer (GS-13) to serve as the Scheduling Operations Chief for the VISN 12 Clinical Contact Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as of August 2026. This full-time, permanent position is based at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center, 5000 West National Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53295, and offers a salary of $111,310 to $144,705 per year. In this leadership role, you will manage medical administration operations for a 24/7 call center environment dedicated to serving Veterans, overseeing scheduling, enrollment, eligibility, and patient access services.

You will be part of the contact center leadership team, driving quality, performance improvement, and efficiency while supporting the VA's mission to care for those who have served. Qualification

There is no educational substitution at this grade level.

  • Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements: served 52 weeks at the next lower grade (GS-12) within the past 52 weeks.
  • GS-13 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-12 in the normal line of progression, including experience with healthcare administrative and scheduling systems, call center technologies, and collaboration tools.
  • Proven success supervising large, diverse, geographically dispersed teams in a 24/7 operational environment, including performance management, staffing, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated leadership in complex healthcare administrative operations, such as scheduling, enrollment, eligibility, and patient access services in a medical center or large healthcare system.
  • Experience in strategic planning, budget management, resource allocation, and implementing policies or process improvements that enhance service quality, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Strong background in quality and performance improvement, including analyzing operational metrics, conducting audits, and leading workflow or customer service initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with experience engaging clinical teams, executive leadership, external partners, and Veterans.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Scheduling Operations Chief for the VISN 12 Clinical Contact Center.
  • Manages medical administration operations, promoting quality, performance improvement, efficiency, and effectiveness in a call center environment serving Veterans during day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
  • Has overall responsibility for customer service, enrollment, eligibility, pre-registration, scheduling, appointment management, insurance collection, administrative and clinical software maintenance, patient first contact resolution, and patient information collection management.
  • Responsible for short-term and long-term planning, contact center customer service, scheduling operations, and evaluation of medical administration functions for continuous improvement.
  • Provides oversight and management of medical administration activities, serves as part of the contact center leadership team, and consults VISN 12 leadership on health administration matters.
