To qualify for this 1-7 Gastroenterology Technician role, you must have at least one year of background comparable to the next lower grade level, demonstrating expertise of endoscopic equipment and procedures. U.S. Citizenship is required.

• Expertise must cover: proficiency with GI endoscopic equipment, selecting alternate equipment or adjusting settings, collecting and labeling specimens, training other technicians, providing aid during emergent and endoscopic cases, and keeping up inventory of specialty equipment.

Assist physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

• Obtain biopsy specimens and strip colon polyps using snares, hot biopsy forceps, and retrieval baskets.
• Inject hemostatic agents during endoscopic injection procedures.
• Manipulate the outer abdominal wall of patients during colonoscopy to facilitate advancement of the endoscope and decrease risk of perforation.
• Ensure patient safety during electrosurgical procedures by assuring right patient grounding and electro-cautery equipment function.
• Give care that incorporates age, gender, cultural, and learning requires of patients.
• Put in infection control measures and don personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately.
• Communicate with group participants about patient care and adhere to ethical standards.
• Gather specimens for cytological and microbiological examinations.
• Train other technicians in core endoscopic procedures.
