The TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR is hiring a NONDESTRUCTIVE TEST INSPECTOR to join the Quality Assurance Department, Nondestructive Test Division. In this role, you will independently perform nondestructive testing and analysis on complex mechanical components, piping systems, and structural assemblies.

You will use advanced test methods, conduct radiographic operations, and serve as Radiographer-in-Charge for nuclear and non-nuclear inspections. This position is ideal for experienced inspectors who can make critical acceptance or rejection decisions without supervision.

The role is based at the Bangor facility in Silverdale, WA, and requires a strong ability to inspect and interpret technical specifications.

Qualification

This position is at the WG 13 grade level. Although no specific length of experience is required, you must demonstrate through experience and training that you possess the quality of knowledge and skill needed. The screen-out element is ABILITY TO INSPECT; applicants must score at least two points on this element to be eligible.

  • Must show through experience and training the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the WG 13 level.
  • Qualification emphasis is on quality of experience, not length of time.
  • Screen-out element: ABILITY TO INSPECT. Minimum of two points required.
  • Must meet OPM Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations.
  • Experience can include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service.
  • No education requirement for this position.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

Role Responsibilities

Independently perform nondestructive testing and analysis on complex mechanical components, piping systems, and structural assemblies.

  • Use advanced test methods and procedures to solve inspection problems.
  • Inspect newly acquired items and complete in-service monitoring in laboratory and field settings.
  • Acquire and record test results using enhanced signal processing and acquisition software on computer-based platforms.
  • Verify and sign off on Discrepancy Reports containing documented discrepancies.
  • Perform calibration and safety checks of test equipment before and after inspections.
  • Conduct radiographic operations and serve as Radiographer-in-Charge (RIC) for nuclear and non-nuclear inspections.
  • Make critical decisions on acceptance or rejection of work performed by skilled craftsmen and other inspectors, without supervisor consultation.
  • Ensure materials, processes, and fabrication techniques meet specification and contractual requirements.
  • Exercise skill and ingenuity to inspect prototypes and troubleshoot inspection techniques for various alloys and component configurations.
Conditions & Requirements

Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance.

  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment (helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, safety shoes) continuously.
  • May require travel CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites, and travel on military and commercial aircraft.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry loads up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding and work in small/confined spaces.
