Pharmacist (Pharmacy Supervisor)

To qualify for this GS-13 Pharmacist (Pharmacy Supervisor) position, you must be a U.S. Citizen with a degree from an ACPE-accredited pharmacy program, a full and unrestricted pharmacy license, and one year of experience equivalent to GS-12. The following specific qualifications apply.

• U.S. Citizenship required; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
• Graduate of an ACPE-accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy or Pharm.D. degree.
• Foreign graduates must provide FPGEC Certification (passing FPGEE and TOEFL iBT).
• Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
• One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level.
• Demonstrated KSAs: ability to supervise subordinate staff; communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence decisions; expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards; skill in managing people or programs.
• Transcript required if using education to qualify; foreign education requires a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency.

Supervise assigned clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, monitoring performance and ensuring quality.

• Coordinate and oversee daily pharmacy operational activities, including drug therapy management.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures for pharmacy services at the local, VISN, and national levels.
• Manage highly technical specialized programs involving automated dispensing equipment and compounded sterile products (CSP).
• Oversee pharmacy compliance programs to meet regulatory and accrediting body requirements.
• Manage budgetary execution for assigned area and maintain effective interdepartmental relations.
• Design and implement orientation and training programs for pharmacy staff.
• Develop performance standards and monitor staff activities.

• Subject to urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment.
• Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
• Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all VA Health Care Personnel.
• Must complete a background/security investigation.
• Will be required to serve a 1- or 2-year trial period.
• Must provide acceptable REAL ID-compliant identification for employment (effective May 7, 2025).
