Job Description

The VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System in Aurora, CO, is hiring a full-time Psychiatrist to provide a full range of psychiatric services to veterans. This role involves diagnosing mental disorders, developing treatment plans, and providing consultation to professional staff.

The position is authorized for situational telework but is not remote. You will work as a member of the Medical Staff with full clinical privileges, assuming complete professional responsibility for patient care decisions and documentation.

This role is ideal for board-certified psychiatrists with 2-5 years of experience who are committed to serving veterans. The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), offering up to $200,000 in student loan repayment.

Qualification

To qualify for this Psychiatrist position (VM 15), you must be a U.S. Citizen (non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens cannot be recruited).. Hold a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school.. Possess a current full and unrestricted license..

And have completed ACGME/AOA-approved residency training. Board certification and 2-5 years of psychiatric provider experience are preferred.

  • U.S. Citizenship required; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens are not available.
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an LCME-accredited medical school or COCA-approved osteopathic school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility.
  • Board certification is required.
  • At least 2-5 years of psychiatric provider experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.
  • Currently employed VA physicians who met previous qualification standards at initial appointment are deemed to have met basic requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of psychiatric services, diagnosing mental disorders particularly for complex or difficult patients.
  • Develop, implement, and document psychotherapeutic treatment plans for an assigned caseload, including prompt completion of clinical reminders.
  • Provide consultation to professional staff within other specialty programs in the Mental Health Service.
  • Function independently as a member of the VA ECHCS Medical Staff with full clinical privileges.
  • Assume complete professional responsibility for clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.
  • Provide outreach services to veterans and family members.
  • Conduct telework appointments via telehealth or VA Video Connect for virtual staff psychiatrists.
  • Assist the program director or coordinator with other clinical duties as assigned.
