Job Description

The City of Bell Gardens is hiring a PT Maintenance Worker to perform semi-skilled manual labor in the maintenance and repair of public performs facilities. This at-will position operates under general supervision and may be rotated through various crews.. With assignments covering streets.. Traffic systems.. Sidewalks.. Signs.. Parks..

Graffiti removal.. Storm drains.. Tree trimming and planting.. And abatement of nuisances in the public right of approach. This role also involves spotting and repairing plumbing matters at Town facilities. Incumbents may be assigned to work nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.

This role is subject to the continued availability of funds and the manpower needs of the Metro. It’s a temporary/part-time role restricted to a certain total of hours within a 12-month period and doesn’t qualify for Town upsides except those required by law.

The Metro doesn’t belong to the Social Security system; mandatory enrollment in an alternative retirement scheme (PARS) calls for a 7.5% employee contribution.

Salary & Compensation

Pay / Cover Package: $18 - $21 per hour.

Qualification

Any combination of education and/or experience that gives the understanding, abilities, and capacities required for thriving post performance related to Town maintenance. Ordinary qualifications contain high school graduation or equivalent and expertise in graffiti removal, street maintenance, or landscaping.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) needed.
  • Know-how in graffiti removal, street maintenance, or landscaping preferred.
  • Sound California Class C driver's license called for; satisfactory driving record (fresh DMV H-6 print out needed).
  • Capacity to express Spanish very desirable.
  • Insight of widespread tools and equipment applied in construction and maintenance function.
  • Expertise of ground maintenance approaches, trees, plants, flowers, and shrubs.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both oral and in writing.
  • Ability in working various equipment and vehicles, and using hand and power instruments.
  • Aptitude to resolve plumbing concerns.
  • Must pass a City-paid physical examination, drug screening, background verify, and verification of U.S. Citizenship or right to work.

Role Responsibilities

  • Perform semi-skilled manual labor in maintenance and repair of streets, traffic systems, sidewalks, signs, parks, and storm drains.
  • Take out graffiti and abate nuisances in the public right of means.
  • Trim and plant trees; spray pesticides; spread seeds and fertilizer; plant or strip flowers.
  • Run power mowers, blowers, sweepers, edgers, sprayers, and other equipment or vehicles.
  • Wipe down and repair restrooms and park equipment; delete trash and debris.
  • Repair roads, pour concrete, and install seasonal street banners.
  • Pinpoint and repair plumbing issues at Metro facilities.
  • Work and uphold in-ground sprinkler systems; edge and weed lawns and flower beds.
