Qualification
To qualify for this FG-9/12 Aviation Safety Inspector (Airworthiness) position, applicants must meet the OPM Qualifications Standard for the Aviation Safety Series (FG-1825). This includes minimum eligibility requirements, specialized experience, and medical standards.
- Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal Aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years.
- Valid State driver's license.
- Fluency in the English language.
- No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- FAA Mechanic Certificate with airframe and power plant ratings (front and back copy required).
- Experience involving maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems with responsibility for certifying airworthiness.
- Maintenance experience with aircraft of 12,500 pounds or less maximum certificated takeoff weight.
- Aircraft maintenance experience in a repair station; air carrier or airline repair facility; military repair facility; or local, state or Federal government agency.
- Aircraft maintenance work experience within the last 3 years.
Role Responsibilities
Assist in enforcement investigations and preparation of final reports (FG-9).
- Participate in accident/incident and complaint investigations (FG-9).
- Assist in re-examination of certificated airmen or recertification of an operator or agency (FG-9).
- Assure aviation organizations and airmen comply with regulatory requirements; report deficiencies to principal inspector or supervisor (FG-11).
- Provide assistance in evaluating air carriers, air agencies, and air operators; make recommendations to principal inspector or supervisor (FG-11).
- Assist in recertification of an operator or agency (FG-11).
- Evaluate mechanics and repair facilities for initial certification and continuing adequacy (FG-12).
- Evaluate mechanic training programs (FG-12).
- Inspect aircraft and related equipment for airworthiness (FG-12).
Conditions & Requirements
U.S. Citizenship required.
- Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
