The City of Santa Clara Police Department is hiring a Public Safety Dispatcher II to handle emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch police and fire personnel, and arrange with field units.

Qualification

You must meet one of the following know-how paths: two years of paid public safety dispatching within the past five years (such as one year solo status).. Or five years of current paid work with a public safety or private EMS agency using CAD/radio/telephone..

Or completion of probation as a Public Safety Dispatcher I with Santa Clara. A POST Public Safety Dispatcher Fundamental Certificate can substitute for six months of solo background.

  • Graduation from high school or GED.
  • Two years of paid public safety dispatching expertise within the past five years, with at least one year solo status.
  • OR five years of existing paid employment with a public safety agency or confidential EMS agency using CAD, radio, and/or telephone.
  • OR thriving completion of probation as a Public Safety Dispatcher I with the City of Santa Clara.
  • Possession of a legitimate California POST Public Safety Dispatcher Core Certificate and MPDS Certificate called for before probation completion.
  • Must pass a Metro background investigation covering fingerprinting, and may demand polygraph and/or psychological testing.
  • Must be fit to perform all vital functions of the role.
  • Federal law calls for proof of perform eligibility; Town doesn’t sponsor H1B or other visas.

Role Responsibilities

  • Dispatch police, fire, and emergency medical offerings units.
  • Reply emergency and non-emergency telephone calls.
  • Receive, analyze, and transmit details to field personnel.
  • Operate computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and multi-channel radios.
  • Uphold correct logs and records of calls and dispatches.
  • Organize with other public safety agencies as needed.
  • Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers when fitting.
