The City of Hayward is hiring experienced lateral Public Safety Dispatchers to join its Police Department Communications Center.
This is a journey-level technical position where you’ll independently manage emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch police and fire solutions, and organize multi-agency responses using a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
The Communications Center operates 24/7 with six stations, each dispatcher assigned to a particular function.
Qualification
To qualify for the lateral Public Safety Dispatcher post, you must have at least two years of expertise as a public safety dispatcher for a Public Safety Answering Aspect (PSAP). This is a journey-level role requiring independent performance of all tasks.
Role Responsibilities
Get emergency and non-emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, or other city solutions.nDetermine nature and location of emergency, prioritize calls, and dispatch fitting units per established procedures.nUse CAD system to enter calls for service, monitor radio traffic, and track field unit status.nOperate California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) to enter, retrieve, and update information on wanted persons, stolen property, and vehicle registration.nCoordinate with other law enforcement agencies and relay critical info during multi-agency incidents.nDispatch animal control, utilities, and street maintenance team for non-emergency calls as needed.nMonitor multiple radio frequencies and keep up contact with field units throughout their assignments.nComplete recovered stolen vehicle reports and assist with organic disaster response communications.
