Registered Nurse (Clinical Nurse Educator)

To qualify for this Registered Nurse (Clinical Nurse Educator) position, you must meet the basic requirements for VHA nursing roles, including English proficiency, graduation from an approved nursing program, and current, unrestricted RN licensure. Grade determination is based on education and experience.

• Proficiency in written and spoken English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
• Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time of program completion.
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S., or the District of Columbia.
• Graduates of foreign nursing schools must possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration to meet the requirement for an associate degree/entry-level program. Higher education requires formal equivalency validation (e.g., from ICD).
• Individuals attending a master's level bridge program who have completed coursework equivalent to a BSN may be appointed temporarily upon achieving state licensure, then converted to permanent after graduation.
• Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: Candidates who meet education requirements but lack licensure may be appointed on a 120-day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure (extendable up to two years).
• Grade determinations: Nurse I, Level I requires an ADN or diploma; Nurse I, Level II requires ADN/diploma plus 1 year experience or BSN; Nurse I, Level III requires ADN/diploma plus 2 years (1 year at Level II) or BSN plus 1 year or MSN; Nurse II requires BSN plus 2 years (1 year at Level III) or MSN plus 1 year; Nurse III requires MSN plus 2 years (1 year at Nurse II) or doctoral degree plus 1 year.
• Experience as an RN will be evaluated on five dimensions: Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Professional Development, and Evidence-Based Practice/Research.
• Volunteer work, including through National Service programs, is credited as qualifying experience.

Provide competent, evidence-based education to nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units.

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate educational needs to facilitate learner development and skill training.
• Use innovative teaching strategies and assessment skills to improve staff competency.
• Coordinate education focused on staff education, self-management, and customer satisfaction across the healthcare continuum.
• Perform learning needs assessments and develop educational trainings for clinical staff.
• Assist with orientation of new employees and evaluate their progress; develop and implement learning plans for identified deficiencies.
• Serve as a trainer and consultant for the Resuscitation Education Initiative (Redi) Program.
• Follow procedures per established policies and guidelines.
• Deliver fundamental understanding of adult learning principles and adapt strategies based on assessment of learning needs.
• Assume responsibility for coordination of education throughout the healthcare continuum.
