This outpatient RN gives evidence-based care to Veterans in the GI Endoscopy/Procedure Clinic, coordinating patient transitions, educating patients and families, and supporting self-management after discharge. The nurse also assists with nursing education, orientation, competencies, and quality improvement.

Salary & Compensation

Salary: $89,703 - $166,144 per year.

Qualification

To qualify, you must be a U.S. Citizen proficient in English, a graduate of an accredited nursing scheme (ACEN or CCNE), and keep a existing, unrestricted RN license. Preferred background contains outpatient/inpatient GI/bronch endoscopy or critical care (ICU, ED, telemetry, cardiac stepdown).

  • U.S. Citizenship called for; non-citizens may be appointed only when qualified citizens can’t be recruited.
  • English Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English per 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
  • Graduate of a school of expert nursing approved by ACEN or CCNE, or a master's level bridge plan with equivalent coursework.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate skilled nurse in a U.S. State, territory, or DC.
  • Foreign nursing graduates: Must have a present, complete, unrestricted registration; higher education requires equivalency validation (e.g., ICD).
  • Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: May be appointed on a 120-day temporary appointment as pursuing licensure, extendable up to two years.
  • Preferred: Outpatient and Inpatient GI/Bronch Endoscopy Needed OR Critical Care Know-how (ICU, ED, Telemetry, Cardiac Stepdown).
  • Grandfathering provision: Existing VHA 0610 series employees performing responsibilities as of 1/29/2024 gather qualification needs.
  • Grade determination based on education, scope, and length of nursing practice across five dimensions: Practice, Veteran/Patient Driven Care, Leadership, Expert Development, Evidence-Based Practice/Research.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supply competent, evidence-based outpatient care to assigned patients.
  • Supervise licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants when proper.
