Job Description

The Department of the Navy is hiring a Shipfitter Leader (WL-10) to work at Point Loma Complex in San Diego, California.

This full-time federal role involves leading shipfitter shop personnel, providing guidance and direction for nuclear or non-nuclear structural work, and using audits and incident reports to analyze trade requirements. You will also interpret work instructions and resolve problems for shop employees.

Estimated market salary: $95,000 - $175,000 per year.

Qualification

To qualify for the Shipfitter Leader (WL-10) position, you must demonstrate the ability to lead or supervise, which is the screen-out element. Your experience and training will be evaluated on quality, not just length of time.

  • Ability to lead or supervise (screen-out element; minimum 2 points required).
  • Experience in shipfitting or related trade, showing knowledge of structural repair and fabrication.
  • Skill in interpreting blueprints, sketches, and work instructions.
  • Ability to provide guidance and instruction to shop personnel.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and personal protective equipment.
  • Experience with audits, surveillance, or incident reports to analyze trade requirements.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Role Responsibilities

Provide guidance and direction to Shipfitter shop personnel.

  • Provide instruction for nuclear or non-nuclear work of the Structural Group.
  • Prepare analysis of trade requirements using audits, surveillance, and incident reports.
  • Provide interpretations and problem resolution for shop employees.
  • Ensure work meets quality and safety standards.
  • Lead teams in shipfitting tasks, including fabrication, assembly, and repair.
