Role Responsibilities
Serve as Deputy Fire Chief, participating in all aspects of administration and planning of a complete fire prevention, firefighting, and rescue program.
- Direct the activities of training, technical services, and operations programs, and operate the communications center.
- Review plans, schedules, and management activities of subordinate assistant chiefs to ensure programs are fully functional and efficient.
- Reassign employees to balance manning of subordinate programs and ensure mission accomplishment.
- Review base plans, policies, strategy, tactics, and procedures for fire suppression and prevention to ensure compliance with national consensus standards, National Fire Codes, uniform building codes, Code of Federal Regulations, OSHA policies, and environmental laws.
- Implement firefighting/emergency response plans and manage fire suppression personnel and equipment under stressful and dangerous conditions.
- Plan, organize, and direct functions; mentor, motivate, appraise, and supervise staff.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Work under adverse environmental conditions and participate in respiratory protection and hearing conservation programs.
- Drive a motor vehicle; maintain a valid driver's license.
