SURFACE MAINTENANCE REPAIRER - Latham, NY

This position is open to current members of the National Guard and Reserves, as well as those willing to join the NY Army National Guard. Military grade requirement: Enlisted. You must have 12 months of specialized experience in mechanical repairs using hand and power tools.

• Military Grades: Enlisted (E-1 through E-9).
• General Experience: Experience or training demonstrating knowledge of equipment to perform routine jobs and simple preventative maintenance tasks, using common tools and equipment.
• Specialized Experience: 12 months of experience or training using common hand and power tools and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs.
• Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories.
• Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory as applied to vehicles.
• Skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments on vehicle systems.
• Understanding of the makeup and operation of various individual systems and their interrelationships.
• Ability to read and interpret parts lists, manufacturer repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
• Education: Not applicable for this position.
• Must be willing to join the NY Army National Guard if not already a member.

Perform limited diagnosis, routine repairs, and maintenance on combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment.

• Assist higher graded mechanics in the performance of maintenance duties.
• Use common hand and power tools, as well as test and measurement devices, to make mechanical repairs.
• Remove, adjust, replace, clean, and install a variety of parts, components, and accessories.
• Read and interpret parts lists, manufacturer repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
• Follow safety practices and procedures to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• May be required to drive a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver's license.
• Work irregular or overtime hours as needed to support operational requirements.

• This is an excepted service position requiring a compatible military assignment in the NY National Guard prior to placement.
