Job Description
The New York Army National Guard is hiring a Surface Maintenance Repairer (WG-5801-08) to perform limited diagnosis, routine repairs, and maintenance on combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment.
This full-time, permanent position is located at the LOGISTICS facility at 330 Old Niskayuna Road in Latham, NY. You will work alongside higher graded mechanics and may assist them in more complex maintenance tasks.

Qualification
This position is open to current members of the National Guard and Reserves, as well as those willing to join the NY Army National Guard. Military grade requirement: Enlisted. You must have 12 months of specialized experience in mechanical repairs using hand and power tools.
- Military Grades: Enlisted (E-1 through E-9).
- General Experience: Experience or training demonstrating knowledge of equipment to perform routine jobs and simple preventative maintenance tasks, using common tools and equipment.
- Specialized Experience: 12 months of experience or training using common hand and power tools and a small variety of test and measurement devices to make mechanical repairs.
- Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories.
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory as applied to vehicles.
- Skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments on vehicle systems.
- Understanding of the makeup and operation of various individual systems and their interrelationships.
- Ability to read and interpret parts lists, manufacturer repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- Education: Not applicable for this position.
- Must be willing to join the NY Army National Guard if not already a member.
Role Responsibilities

- Assist higher graded mechanics in the performance of maintenance duties.
- Use common hand and power tools, as well as test and measurement devices, to make mechanical repairs.
- Remove, adjust, replace, clean, and install a variety of parts, components, and accessories.
- Read and interpret parts lists, manufacturer repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- Follow safety practices and procedures to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- May be required to drive a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver's license.
- Work irregular or overtime hours as needed to support operational requirements.
