Army National Guard Units Jobs 2026 – SURFACE MAINTENANCE REPAIRER in Washington

Salary / Pay Package: $35 - $41 per hour.

To qualify for the WG-8 Surface Maintenance Repairer position, you must have at least 12 months of experience or training using common hand and power tools and test devices to make mechanical repairs. This experience should include removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts and components, as well as a basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory.

• Months of experience or training using common hand and power tools and a variety of test and measurement devices to perform mechanical repairs.
• Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts and components such as wheel seals, switches, sensors, fuel pumps, water pumps, power steering pumps, brakes, filters, radiators, bearings, springs, shock absorbers, wheel cylinders, starter motors, mufflers, and battery cables.
• Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory as applied to vehicles.
• Skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments on vehicle systems.
• Understanding of the makeup and operation of individual systems and their interrelationships.
• Ability to read and interpret parts lists, manufacturer repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
• Must be a member of the Alaska Army National Guard (Area 1 or 2).
• Military grade requirement: minimum Private First Class (PFC/E-3) and maximum Sergeant (SGT/E-5).
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
• Valid driver's license may be required.

Perform limited diagnosis and routine repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles.

• Assist higher graded mechanics in repairing and overhauling major systems including engines, transmissions, drive lines, and hydraulic systems.
• Remove, adjust, replace, clean, and install parts and components such as wheel seals, switches, sensors, fuel pumps, brakes, filters, radiators, bearings, springs, shock absorbers, and starter motors.
• Use basic test equipment like compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, and pressure gauges to diagnose mechanical failures.
• Perform Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) including brake adjustments, fluid replacements, and greasing.
• Provide field maintenance at unit locations as part of a contact team; recover and evacuate inoperable vehicles.
• Conduct limited readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment.
• Maintain supply documentation and assist with receipt, store, issue, and inventory of tools and parts as needed.
