Job Description
The Alaska Army National Guard is hiring a Surface Maintenance Repairer (WG-8) to join the JFHQ in Fairbanks, Alaska. This role focuses on performing narrow diagnosis, routine repairs, and preventive maintenance on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat vehicles, tactical vehicles, and automotive vehicles.
You’ll assist higher graded mechanics in overhauling key systems such as internal combustion engines, turbine engines, transmissions, drive lines, and hydraulic systems.
Standard jobs cover removing, adjusting, replacing, and installing parts like wheel seals, switches, sensors, fuel pumps, brakes, filters, radiators, bearings, springs, shock absorbers, and starter motors. You’ll employ elementary test equipment such as compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, and pressure gauges to diagnose mechanical failures.
The role may demand field maintenance at unit locations as portion of a contact crew, recovering and evacuating inoperable vehicles. You’ll also perform Preventive Maintenance Inspects and Solutions (PMCS), covering brake adjustments, fluid replacements, and greasing.
This is a temporary, full-time post with a settle grade of WG-8, offering a pay span of $35.05 to $40.91 per hour.
Salary & Compensation
Pay / Cover Package: $35 - $41 per hour.
Qualification
To qualify for the WG-8 Surface Maintenance Repairer role, you must have at least 12 months of know-how or training using widespread hand and power tools and test devices to build mechanical repairs.
This background should contain removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing sections and components, as well as a fundamental understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory.
- Months of experience or training using frequent hand and power instruments and various test and measurement devices to perform mechanical repairs.
- Expertise removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing pieces and components such as wheel seals, switches, sensors, fuel pumps, water pumps, power steering pumps, brakes, filters, radiators, bearings, springs, shock absorbers, wheel cylinders, starter motors, mufflers, and battery cables.
- Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory as applied to vehicles.
- Skill to substitute, fit, install, and form adjustments on vehicle systems.
- Understanding of the makeup and operation of person systems and their interrelationships.
- Aptitude to review and interpret portions sets, manufacturer repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics.
- Must be a participant of the Alaska Army National Guard (Area 1 or 2).
- Military grade condition: minimum Personal First Class (PFC/E-3) and maximum Sergeant (SGT/E-5).
- Must be capable to obtain and uphold a Secret security clearance.
- Sound driver's license may be needed.
Role Responsibilities
- Perform restricted diagnosis and routine repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles.
- Assist higher graded mechanics in repairing and overhauling primary systems such as engines, transmissions, drive lines, and hydraulic systems.
- Take out, adjust, swap, clean, and install sections and components such as wheel seals, switches, sensors, fuel pumps, brakes, filters, radiators, bearings, springs, shock absorbers, and starter motors.
- Apply core test equipment like compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, and pressure gauges to diagnose mechanical failures.
- Perform Preventive Maintenance Verifies and Offerings (PMCS) including brake adjustments, fluid replacements, and greasing.
- Give field maintenance at unit locations as piece of a contact group; recover and evacuate inoperable vehicles.
- Run narrow readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment.
- Keep up supply documentation and help with receipt, store, problem, and inventory of utilities and pieces as needed.
