Job Description
The Transportation Assistant – Transportation Coordinator serves as the primary contact for Veterans needing transportation at the Battle Creek VA Medical Center in Battle Creek, Michigan.
This role is part of the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) program and works under the Supervisory Mobility Manager to forecast workload, design schedules, develop procedures, and improve quality.
The position is not virtual; you must live within or be willing to relocate to a commutable distance of the duty location.
Qualification
To qualify for the GS-6 Transportation Assistant position, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service. This experience must be directly related to transportation support duties.
- Specialized Experience GS-6: One full year (35-40 hours per week) of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05.
- Experience must include coordinating transportation connections/scheduling, documenting travel information, collecting/compiling/tracking data, performing basic data analysis, generating reports, entering data into automated databases, and planning/directing support services.
- Part-time experience is credited based on actual hours worked; clearly indicate duties and hours per week in your resume.
- No educational substitution at this grade level.
- Only degrees from accredited U.S. Department of Education institutions are accepted; foreign education requires a Certificate of Foreign Equivalency.

- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Subject to background/security investigation and completion of an online onboarding process.
- Must serve a 1-year probationary period.

Role Responsibilities
Act as primary contact for Veterans regarding transportation needs.
- Perform workload forecasting, scheduling design, procedure development, and quality improvement for VTS.
- Coordinate transportation functions including scheduling, data collection, and tracking.
- Manage consults and appointment scheduling.
- Collect, compile, and track data and statistical information daily.
- Perform basic data analysis and generate reports.
- Enter data into automated tracking databases.
- Plan and direct program support services.
- Work with clinical services and related software.
- Travel intermittently to various locations within the Medical Center's catchment area.
