The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is hiring a Transportation Security Officer (TSO) for Grand Forks International Airport (GFK) in North Dakota. This part-time role is critical to protecting air travelers, airports, and aircraft by screening passengers, baggage, and cargo for prohibited items.

Qualification
To qualify for the SV-D pay band (equivalent to GS-5/6), you must encounter either the expertise or education condition below.
- Know-how: At least one year of full-time work background in the security field, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician.
- Education: A high school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency certificate.
- Part-time expertise is credited on a pro-rata basis (e.g., 20 hours/week for two months equals one month of experience).
- Volunteer experience through National Solution programs (Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) or other institutions is qualifying.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
- Must be at least 18 years aged at time of submission.
- Selective Offering registration needed for males born after 12/31/59.
- Must pass a structured meeting, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation.
- Must be proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking, understanding).
- Must gather physical demands: capacity to lift 50 lbs, walk up to 3 miles per shift, stand for prolonged periods, squat, and bend.
Role Responsibilities
Work screening equipment (X-ray, metal detectors, etc.) to spot dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers.
- Perform physical searches covering pat-downs, bag searches, and lifting/carrying items up to 50 lbs.
- Control terminal entry and exit points to ensure only approved access.
- Interact with the public, give directions, and respond to inquiries professionally.
- Keep up center and awareness in a stressful environment with noise, distractions, and time pressure.
- Register risk-based security screening protocols and adapt to changing procedures.
- Retain and carry out Standard Running Procedures (SOPs) consistently.
- Go to mandatory training, which may need travel for 3-6 weeks away from the airport of record.
