About City of Long Beach
The City of Long Beach, California, is a municipal corporation formed in 1897, operating under a Council-Manager form of government. The city is governed by a nine-member City Council elected by district and a citywide elected Mayor, along with elected City Attorney, City Prosecutor, and City Auditor. Appointed officials include the City Manager and City Clerk. The City Manager's Office plans and directs the implementation of City programs and initiatives in accordance with City Council policies, the City Charter, and the Municipal Code, providing leadership for effective delivery of municipal services. The City of Long Beach employs approximately 6,500 people and is focused on priorities including public safety, housing and homelessness, economic development, and infrastructure.
