The US Coast Guard Aviation Logistics Center in Elizabeth City, North Carolina is hiring an Aircraft Engine Mechanic (WG-10) to test and certify the performance of conventional and modified aircraft engines before installation or inventory placement.

Qualification

Applicants for this WG-10 Aircraft Engine Mechanic position are evaluated on ability to perform duties rather than length of experience. Eligibility is determined by relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training. You must be a US citizen.

  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (screen-out element).
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
  • Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Use of measuring instruments.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting.
  • Experience may be paid or unpaid, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps).
  • No positive education requirement; education may be used to qualify if from an accredited institution.
  • Only experience obtained by the closing date (07/25/2026) will be considered.
Role Responsibilities

Test and certify acceptable performance of conventional or modified aircraft engines prior to installation or inventory placement.

  • Repair and rework engine parts and components.
  • Perform visual, dimensional, and tactile checks for foreign object damage, stress fractures, excessive wear, etc.
  • Disassemble aircraft engines and components; remove tubing, fuel controls, pumps, and other accessories.
  • Operate diagnostic and on-board electronic equipment to identify aircraft-related problems affecting engine operation.
  • Identify and select alternative methods and trade techniques to adapt repair procedures to new or unfamiliar engine or accessory systems.
  • Anticipate required tools and parts and set up the work area.
  • Complete mandatory training and any other training as necessary.
