Job Description
The North Slope Borough is hiring an Animal Control Officer to assist the community of Barrow, Alaska. This role is responsible for responding to animal-related calls, capturing stray animals using remote capture devices, and enforcing area animal ordinances.
The officer will also assist the Borough Police Department with rabies control and stray animal problems, problem citations, and investigate animal bite complaints.
In addition to field responsibilities, this role involves providing public education on animal care and rabies prevention, as well as performing elementary veterinary clinic maintenance such as cleaning, feeding, and infection control. The officer will arrange surgery packs, assist with operating room procedures, and manage animal restraint.
General office functions related to everyday veterinary practice operations are also part of the role. This role is perfect for people with background in animal control or veterinary settings who are comfortable operating in a remote Alaskan community.

Salary & Compensation
Salary: $32.16 per hour.
Qualification
You must have know-how in animal control or a related field, with expertise of animal handling and restraint techniques. Familiarity with North Slope Borough ordinances and rabies control procedures is preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Capture stray animals using remote capture devices.
- Process impounded animals according to North Slope Borough Ordinances.
- Concern citations to animal owners violating ordinances.
- Investigate animal bite complaints and take proper action.
- Vaccinate animals as required for rabies control.
- Assist the Borough Police Department with stray animal and rabies concerns.
- Give public education on animal care and rabies prevention.
- Perform fundamental veterinary clinic maintenance such as cleaning and feeding.
- Get ready surgery packs and aid with operating room procedures.
- Perform animal restraint and aseptic techniques.
